Kickstart is always looking for new Board Members!

Kickstart Disability Arts & Culture, founded in 1998, has a mission is to produce and present works by artists with disabilities and to promote artistic excellence among artists with disabilities working in a variety of disciplines. It is one of the few multi-disciplinary arts and culture organization in British Columbia that professionally supports and promotes artists who identify as living with disabilities. Kickstart is seeking new board members. We are looking for members that believe in our mission and are willing to be active in their role as we are a small organization that relies on the support of the Board of Directors. Ideal candidates are team orientated and passionate about disability, inclusion and the arts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Kickstart’s team is comprised of dedicated, creative people with various skillsets. We are open to candidates of all abilities, our mandate states that 50% of our board must identify as Mad, Deaf or Disabled, so preference is given to those individuals. Skills that we consider to be an asset for our team include, but are not limited to:

  • Fundraising
  • Financial Management
  • Capacity Building
  • Marketing
  • Digital Literacy & Technological Expertise
  • Administrative Expertise

Kickstart is based in Vancouver, BC Canada but welcomes board members from across North America!

Board Roles include; President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Member At Large.

BOARD INFO & COMMITMENT

Joining Kickstart means that you are a part of a community who works to create equal opportunity for artists who identify as living with a disability. It is a chance to participate in and get to know artists whose work you may have not been exposed to before. We are fortunate to be connected to a talented, supportive community, that has helped us make solid connections that facilitate real, impactful change.

Term of office for this volunteer position is three years, beginning at the AGM in September The Kickstart Disability Arts & Culture Board is a Working Board, overseeing the operations of and fundraising for a non-profit, charitable society managed by a part-time Executive Director. As per a new Strategic Plan that the current Board has created, our organization is working towards shifting to a Governance Board in the near future. 

The Board meets a maximum of 6 times a year (typically once every 2 months) for regular meetings, currently taking place via Zoom. Attendance is essential, as we need to make decisions as a team, with a focus on what is most in line with our mandate, and what is best for the future of the organization. Kickstart also hosts several events throughout the year, which may require support from the board in order to ensure the best possible outcome for us and those participating in these community events.
